Why Browser Extensions Are the Hidden Threat
Extensions are small programs that run inside your browser with broad permissions. A malicious extension — or a legitimate extension that has been compromised through a security update — can read every website you visit, capture what you type, and modify the content of pages you view. This includes your crypto exchange login page.
There are documented cases of popular browser extensions being sold to bad actors who then pushed malicious updates that turned the extension into a credential harvester overnight. Your extension library is a silent risk factor you have probably never audited.
The Clean Browser Setup
The Clean Browser Protocol involves designating a separate browser profile — or a separate browser entirely — exclusively for crypto activity. This profile has zero extensions installed. It has no saved passwords. It is never used for email, shopping, or social media browsing.
When you need to access your exchange or crypto-related websites you switch to the clean browser. When you are done you close it completely. This profile never accumulates the digital residue that creates vulnerability over time.
How to Set This Up in 15 Minutes
On most computers this is simply a matter of creating a new browser profile in Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. Name it something like "Crypto Only" so you remember its purpose. Do not sign into a Google or Microsoft account in that profile — this prevents cross-profile data syncing. Bookmark your exchange directly in that profile and never access it from anywhere else.
